RecLab Privacy Policy

RecLab is a macOS app for recording readings from laboratory instruments. It is developed by Richard Klingler, [postal address], Switzerland ("I", "me").
The short version: RecLab does not collect, transmit or sell any personal data. Everything it records stays on your Mac.
WHAT RECLAB STORES
RecLab stores the following on your Mac only, inside the app's sandboxed container:
- app settings, such as polling interval, appearance and export options
- instrument settings you make, such as channel names, units, colours and which channels are recorded
- the addresses of instruments you add or that RecLab has found on your network
Measurement data is kept in memory while you record. It is written to disk only when you export it, to a location you choose.
WHAT RECLAB SENDS, AND TO WHOM
RecLab communicates only with the instruments you connect it to:
- over USB, directly with the connected instrument
- on your local network, to discover instruments and read their measurements
- over HTTP(S), only to the address you enter for an instrument. Any user name, password or token you enter for such an instrument is sent only to that instrument.
RecLab does not contact any server operated by me or by third parties. It contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting code, and it has no user accounts.
LOCAL NETWORK AND DEVICE ACCESS
macOS asks for permission before RecLab searches your local network. This permission is used only to find and query measurement instruments. USB and serial access are used only to communicate with instruments you connect.
NOTIFICATIONS
If you allow notifications, RecLab shows a local notification when a timed recording stops. The notification is generated on your Mac and sent nowhere.
APPLE
RecLab is distributed through Apple's App Store and TestFlight. Apple may collect information such as purchase data, and for TestFlight testers crash reports and feedback you choose to send, under Apple's own privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). If you send feedback through TestFlight, I receive the feedback and any screenshot you attach.
EMAIL
If you email me, I use your address and message only to reply to you, and I do not pass them on.
YOUR RIGHTS
Because RecLab collects no personal data, I hold none about you from the app. You can delete everything RecLab stores by deleting the app. Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may ask me what personal data I hold about you, for example from an email, and ask me to correct or delete it.
CHANGES
If RecLab's handling of data changes, I will update this page and the date above before the change reaches the app.
